Meet Stephanie.

We asked Stephanie to take a few minutes out of her busy day being an #, to tell us a little bit about her role at The S.E. Farris Law Firm.

Q: How long have you been with The S.E. Farris Law Firm and what is your title?
A: I have been with the firm for eight years as a Legal Assistant and I have loved every second of it!

Q: What are your job responsibilities, and what does a normal day look like for you?
A: I basically do whatever is needed to assist Spencer and the rest of our team in a majority of our cases. A normal day for me is different every day, but I mostly spend my time doing client intakes, drafting pleadings, scheduling depositions and hearings, writing forbearance letters so that client medical bills don’t go into collection, and trial preparation. Most importantly, I maintain client contact. I talk to our clients pretty regularly to stay updated on their treatment plans and progress, and to keep them up to date on the status of their case.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: My favorite part about my job is knowing that we help people who are going through a traumatic, stressful, and frustrating ordeal. We help them get to the light at the end of their tunnel, and there is nothing better than seeing their smile and the sense of relief that comes over them when their case is over.

Q: Tell us about a particular case that you bonded with a client, felt like you really made a difference in their life, or just a notable case that you worked on that resonates with you and why.
A: As I mentioned earlier, my favorite part about my job is being able to help others in need and making a difference in their lives. One of my client’s, Mathew, was involved in a seemingly simple, yet very complex case. It was a four-vehicle crash where the insurance company of the at-fault party was not taking responsibility. After we filed suit, others joined in. Before we knew it, all four parties were involved in the suit. Basically, it boiled down to the fact that our client was getting the short end of the stick all the way around. He was a friendly, hardworking, nice guy, and we went to bat to make sure the insurance company paid for what they should have. They didn’t want to pay for even a portion of the property damage, but we were able to secure him a $100,000 settlement. That was a good day.

Q: Ok, Stephanie. Tell us a little bit about you. Tell us three fun facts about you.
A: One fun fact about me is I just love plants! And that’s saying it mildly! Luckily my husband and son love them just as much as I do. We even tend to run out of places to put them in our house. In the winter, our basement becomes a jungle with all of our outdoor plants, and our plants are meaningful to us. Whether they are a sentimental plant from a funeral or just one of our favs that we use for “breeding,” we love them.
Another fun fact is that my family and I have three huge rescue dogs that are brothers. Chance and Coby are mixed Shepherd/Terriers, and JD, who we found under a John Deere Tractor, is a Plott Hound—and yes, this dog is loud…he sounds like a mating seal!
Lastly, I really enjoy playing chess with my son. I started teaching him when he was younger and he just got the hang of it. So much so that he has won a number of games at after school chess classes and is seemingly much better than I am! Not that I like to admit that a nine-year-old beats me at chess, but hey, he learned from the best.
