Meet Laura.
We asked Laura to take a few minutes out of her busy day being a #LegalWingWoman, to tell us a little bit about her role at The S.E. Farris Law Firm.
Q: How long have you been with The S.E. Farris Law Firm and what is your title?
A: I have been with The S.E. Farris Law Firm for almost five years now as a legal assistant, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
Q: What are your job responsibilities, and what does a normal day look like for you?
A: A normal day for me is mostly assisting Spencer, and the rest of our team, to move our clients’ cases quickly and smoothly toward a successful resolution. My responsibilities include gathering client information, helping keep debt collectors from harassing clients, filing legal documents, preparing for trials, and most importantly, I keep in touch with clients about their progress and keep them up to date on the status of their case. I am the first contact point my clients have with our firm!
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: I am always getting to learn new things about the law, and of course, being able to help our clients. There isn’t a better feeling of knowing that I helped make a difference in someone’s life at a time when they really need me.
Q: Tell us about a particular case that you bonded with a client, felt like you really made a difference in their life, or just a notable case that you worked on that resonates with you and why.
A: A particular case that really had an impact on me was the Richard Hawkins case. This client came to us because he was injured at a casino. The insurance company refused to make a settlement offer. We have one response to “NO” around here, and that is to fight for our client. It was a tough fight and a long process, and we had to take it all the way to the jury trial, but we remained positive throughout the entire case, worked hard, and ended up winning in the end. That was a really nice feeling.
Q: Ok, Laura. Tell us three fun facts about you.
A: It’s hard to pick just three, there are so many quirky things about me. I guess I can start with the fact that I’m currently 29-years-old, and I still love hot chocolate with marshmallows, taking naps, and Disney movies. Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie because I would love to have three wishes granted to me from a magic genie! Another fun fact is that I tend to laugh way more than the average person. Laughing just puts me, and others, in a happier mood! It’s contagious. And lastly, I was a member of the National Football League. No, not as a football player, but as a cheerleader for the St. Louis Rams for two years while I was in college.
