Knowing which vehicles and vehicle parts are under recall can be a literal life saver. The NHTSA estimated 20,175 traffic fatalities in 2022 alone, not including the thousands of personal injuries suffered in car wrecks. In fact, 44,000 of the car crashes investigated by the NHTSA were caused by defective vehicles, according to a 2015 report. Decrease your chances of getting into a car accident in 2023 by staying up-to-date on vehicle recalls.

BMW R1250 Motorcycles

On January 18th, 2023, BMW announced a recall of over 18,000 motorcycles due to complications with the gearbox input shaft, according to Consumer Affairs. Certain engine operating and riding conditions can cause the gearbox input shaft to break. When this happens, it can block the back wheel, which significantly increases the risk of getting into a motorcycle accident. There have been at least 3 incidents relating to this issue according to Zig Wheels. The motorcycles under recall are the model years 2019-2023 for the following.

  • R1250GS
  • R1250GS Adventure
  • R1250RTP

If you own any of the above motorcycles, call BMW customer service.

Volvo 2023 Vehicles

According to Auto Blog, 27,457 Volvo vehicles have been recalled because of braking issues. Because of a software glitch in the brake-by-wire system, conducting an in-vehicle diagnostic test can cause the vehicle’s brake module 2 to malfunction. This means that the driver loses the use of the Antilock Brake System (ABS), traction control, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Below are the affected Volvo vehicles under recall.

  • C40
  • XC40
  • S60
  • XC60
  • V60
  • V60 Cross Country
  • V90 Cross Country
  • XC90

Brake failure accounts for about 5% of all car accidents annually. With millions of car accidents reported yearly in the U.S., this statistic is staggering. Be sure to conduct brake maintenance regularly and check for recalls to reduce the risk of a car wreck.

Ford

Approximately 382,000 Ford SUVs with 360-degree back up cameras are being recalled. According to USA Today, complications with the cameras have contributed to at least 17 car accidents. Ford informed the NHTSA that the back camera system has a faulty module that incites a failure to sync between the driver’s screen and the camera itself. This can sometimes cause the screen to go blue without showing what’s behind the car while the vehicle is in reverse. Below are the affected vehicles.

  • 2020-2023 Ford Explorer
  • 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair

Ford also reported to the NHTSA that it has about 800 2023 Ford Broncos under recall due to a suspected leak in the valve of the ABS. This can cause unexpected changes in how hard the brake pedal needs to be pressed, and sudden movements when the auto hold feature is active.
